 The Baby House situated in Umhlanga Rocks Durban South Africa and provides a safe refuge for up to 6 abandoned babies at a time. All the babies are between the ages of one day to 12 months. The purpose is to provide a safe haven for the babies until they can be placed in permanent homes either through adoption or by returning them to their biological extended families. The Baby House provides quality care, nutrition, and love while these infants need it the most.
The Baby House is heavily dependant on volunteer staffing from the community. Volunteers register and commit themselves to a time slot on a roster and join with others in whatever needs to be done.

The Baby House has 6 cots, each with a Winnie the Pooh BRAND!!
Each Cot can be sponsored and these are the details of the babies in each cot. As the babies are "wards of the state". Pictures of the babies faces are expressly forbidden by Durban Children's Society.
 Baby 1:
Baby 1 is a very intelligent little girl of 6 months who loves to play with rattles and her teething ring, and REALLY enjoys her food. She was abandoned by her mother and the father is unknown. She sleeps well and has a gentle nature which just makes you love her all the more. She had a skin fungus which we have managed to clear up with medication and now she is looking shiny and new ! She lives in the "Piglet" cot and the sponsor is "Plan for Life". (www.planforlife.co.za)
Baby 2:
Baby 2 is a patient, happy four month old boy who has just started chatting immensely in his baby language. He was abandoned and both Mother and Father are unknown. He is very healthy and is progressing well. He sleeps well but prefers to be awake and playing. He loves shopping trips and behaves impeccably on every trip out. He lives in the "Rabbit" cot which does not yet have a sponsor.
Baby 3:
Baby 3 is a very cute two month old girl who loves to be cuddled. She was left at the Hospital after birth as her mother could not financially support her. She eats well and sleeps well, and is altogether an absolute pleasure to look after. She also had a slight skin fungus which we have managed to clear and she is going to be adopted into a new family very soon. She lives in the "Eeyore" cot which does not yet have a sponsor.
Baby 4:
Baby 4 is a very active 11 month old boy. He was given to the Child Welfare by his mother and she could not afford to keep him. When he arrived with us he had a tendency to hurt the other babies, but he has become far more gentle and affectionate. He will be going back to his mom soon as she is now in a financial position to care for him herself. He has four teeth which he is very proud of and is starting to walk while holding on furniture. He lives in the "Winnie-the-Pooh" cot which does not yet have a sponsor yet.
Baby 5:
Baby 5 has not had a very good start to his little life. He was brought to us from the Hospital where he was abandoned at 3.5 months old. His Mother and Father are unknown. He is HIV Positive and is very sick. His liver is enlarged and he is going to be moving to a special care facility soon. We hope that we can give him all the love he needs while he is with us. He is a very calm and gentle baby despite his illness. He lives in the "Tigger" cot which does not yet have a sponsor.
